Espresso PCB Transformer

I'm not an electrical engineer but I can do some odd circuitry. I have an espresso machine that I believe the PCB transformer is malfunctioning. This thread is what led me to the transformer since I have the exact symptoms (https://www.coffeeforums.co.uk/thre...-minutes-heating-up-and-how-i-fixed-it.17588/). The main difference is I live in Canada and I have a 115V controller as opposed to 230V.

This is what is printed on the transformer on my controller: Hahn (BV EI 303 2537) 115v 18v 1.5VA. See attached a photo of the controller/transformer. I tried looking up the BV* part number but can't seem to find it. I found some transformers that seem close but I have no idea it would work if I replaced it.

a) 230v 18V 1.5VA https://canada.newark.com/myrra/44089/isolation-transformer-1-5-va-1/dp/50P9101

b) 2*115V 18V 1.5VA

Any guidance or advice would be much appreciated.

That's a 'bog standard' mains transformer - in your case a 115V primary and an 18V secondary and providing the replacement fits physically (pin arrangement for primary/secondary etc) then either will work. You could even mount the transformer elsewhere and take flying leads (insulated at the wire-soldered terminals as required of course) from the transformer to the circuit board and it'll work.

Sounds like the original version could possibly have a thermal cut-out buried in the windings.
Could be activated due to too low a Va size of the transformer?
