hi

just have to say,
very rare that I buy parts from overseas as RS or Farnell ( Element 14) usually have most exotic parts
this time neither did so risked buying them through Mouser

did my first parts order from Mouser Electronics in the USA 3 days ago
10 x Ethernet transformers HX1188NL
http://datasheet.octopart.com/HX1188NL-Pulse-datasheet-8371638.pdf

3 day courier with DHL and zero postage cost

seriously impressed

Yeah, I've done an order (over USD50 for free postage if I recall correctly) and it came pretty quickly, perhaps not as fast as yours though!

Hmm. I use Mouser for most of my parts orders and they always charge me shipping. I guess it helps to be overseas!

I do have to say that they are very good. For parts in stock they ship on the same day and by U.S. post I get it in 2 days typically.

In the UK I think it's a 33 GBP order for free shipping. Shipping is 12 GBP I think.

I looked at the website again, and there does not seem to be free shipping in the U.S. Very strange. I wonder if their prices are higher for overseas shipments.

Just looked up some prices. Pickit 3:

USD 47.95
AUD 67.85 which would be 52.25 USD

So they are charging you a bit more, then giving you free shipping. Probably good marketing since everyone hates paying as much for shipping as they pay for the merchandise.

If you go to mouser. Com.au you get prices inclusive of vat (10%).

Ordering from mouser. Com you get to pay currency conversion fees on your credit card plus the potential for input duties and get if the order is large enough (under $AUD1000 is usually ok)

I generally order from the US site even though the absolute dollar amount for free freight is higher.

It would be interesting if the US site is geolocation to quote different prices to people in different places.

Slightly higher prices and free freight remove the uncertainty in pricing that can make the difference between ordering from one supplier ot another. I use digikey's sure for many things but order from them far less often despite their lower prices because the is uncertainty about the final price right up until you place your order.
