I inherited an old design that used Eagle for layout, and I want
to convert the parts libraries to either orcad or protel.

The parts are custom so they dont outside of these libraries.
Is there any tool that can convert them to something else or am I stuck
using eagle???

Ben,

I just finished converting a series of Eagle Schematics and PCBs to P-CAD
2001.

The process I used involves Exporting the Eagle Schematic to a DXF file, and
Importing that into P-CAD Schematic.

The PCB was also Exported... but as a Gerber file. I then Imported the
Gerbers into P-CAD PCB.

All in all... it is a fairly straightforward process. It takes a bit of
time... but not too much compared with having to start over.

AFAIK, EAGLE can export .DXF files. Probably Orcad or Protel are able to import
them.

Yes,

I believe I said that I exported DXF files from Eagle. However... the DXF
files do NOT contain any electrical intelligence, and I pretty much wound up
redrawing the Schematic superimposed over the DXF lines.

The schematic capture/place&route/gerber shouldnt be TOO much work to
re-do, its putting all the parts (package/dimensions) into a library that is
painfully slow.

I guess I have to bite the bullet. If theres any software developers
out there, a program to convert cad files from one vendor format to another
might be a good business!
