[6] Determine where the cell boundary is between two cell towers using the information in the diagram below. Answer by solving for X in the diagram, which is the distance to the boundary from tower B. Antenna A’s transmit power is 256 times greater than antenna B. The gain and height of towers A and B are identical. There are no miscellaneous losses to account for in this scenario. You must show your work.

A(> | <)B

| Boundary |

+-------------------------------+-------------------------+

| |<---------[ X ]--------->|

| |

|<---------[ Distance between towers = 8000 m ]---------->|

I have attempted to use the formula: Pr= Pt Gt ht(2) Gr hr(2)/D4 where the following applies

Pt= Power of the transmitter
Gt=Gain of the transmitter
ht=Height of the transmitter
Gr=Gain of the receiver
hr=Height of the receiver
D=Distance.
But this formula is solving for Pr or power not distance. Please provide example of how to do this. The instructor did not provide any and is out of country so he cannot be reached.

Well,
The boundary is at a distance D in which the receiving level is the same from both towers.
PrA=PrB.

All factors cancel out since they are equal(height,gain,frequency,polarization etc.)except the difference in transmit level.
The signal attenuates according to 1/r^2.
