Firewire Cable Wiring

This is a few things I found whilst trying to make a (6pin to 4pin)
firewire cable, i.e. soldering two connectors to the ends of a wire.

There are diagrams of the plug pinouts easily found on the web.
The ones I found are all quite clear. This is deceptive.

**The plug is female and the socket is male**

Miss this fact and you will short circuit the power provided through
the 6pin plug!

(In my case the fuses on the firewire card did nothing at all, and a
trace on the motherboard burned through, luckily this was easily
repaired.)

**Pair A is connected to pair B at the other end**

Discovered by trial and error. Without crossing over the wires nothing
will happen.

Hope this helps [person like me] searching in the future.

USE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
CHECK YOUR CONNECTIONS THOUROUGHLY.
