  1. Turn it off.
  2. Try a forum specialising in refrigeration.
  3. Wear earplugs.
  4. Let your children out of the fridge.
  5. Put the fridge outside.
  6. Find the noisy bit and hit it repetitively with a large hammer until the noise stops.
One of these options is probably better than the others.

It's a shame you're in Canada. If you were in or near Punjab province in India there would be a simple answer.

All of my past experiences have been related to fan /bearing shrieks.
Give us the brand and model and the area that the noise seems to be originating from, and is it also having a separate freezer section ?

.....tap, knock, rumble, hiss, pip or tick.....?

If it has a fan (some do) do the blades rotate without hitting anything? Is the fan working ok (i.e. bearings)?

The compressor is physically isolated from the metalwork by rubber bushings. One may have failed. Similarly, a lot of the freezer pipework is left 'floating' in the air - is any part of it touching the chassis/frame? Simple massaging (slight bending) of the pipe work will shift it out of the way.

If the noise is from the compressor bearings then you need a new compressor.

Yes find the noise source. Common culprits are the fan bearings worn out, the compressor worn out, or the rubber vibration isolating bushings worn out.

Could be something simple like a cardboard backing is loose and vibrating.

You could fill your ears with peanut butter.

This poster had a history of starting similar threads and not returning (he has also had a noisy air-conditioner).

Added to that, he is not who he says he is.

All the evidence points to him being a particularly inept spammer. I would be happy to see evidence to the contrary.
