Hello. I'm looking for an economical flow switch (or an idea to make one) to measure the flow of a gas (vs a liquid). Flow in one application is quite low - less than a LPM for sure. The other is probably 2 LPM. While some sort of indication of flow rate would be nice (such as pulsing), honestly I'd be happy at this point with a simply knowing if there is flow or not. I will be hooking these to a Click Plus PLC and have both discrete and analog inputs available. There are fancy sensors from quality suppliers, but the ones I've seen are well into the triple digits or multiple triple digits cost wise. My needs for this project don't warrant that type of expenditure, especially considering that I need four of them. ;-) Thank you!

If you have a friend working in the sheet metal workshop somewhere, they usually have heaps of working flow guages off their mig/tig welders.
