found a diy on Nintendo Candy Tin Portable Guitar Amp need help finding parts! I have been out of the electronics world for a while trying to get back into need some help. Here is the link for the article:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Nintendo-Candy-Tin-Portable-Guitar-Amp/#step1

Here is the parts list:
Nintendo Candy tin GOT THIS
(LM386 chip, 10uf and 250uf electrolytic capacitors, 10ohm resistor and .05uf cap)
a mono right angle 1/4th inch inch jack with screws (found mine at futurlec)
SPST switch
2-3 coin cell batteries (larger 3v ~CR2032 work ok)
small speaker (under 1.7inch diameter, i think i pulled mine from one of those talking birthday cards)

If you type in 10uf into mouser or jameco you get about 10k results just for capacitors alone lol. So I need to know exactly what i would need to get to get this going.

Thanks in advance for any help!

hi there
welcome to the forums :)

any 12V or greater rating for the 10uF and 250uF capacitors
the 15V ones will be ideal, any higher rating than that and they will start to get physically too big for your project

ohhh I meant to also say....

You probably wont get a 0.05uF cap, 0.047 is the standard value
its type can be a mylar, polyprop or polyester wont matter too much :)

I can get everything (for the second version) except a speaker at radioshack any ideas on where I can get the speaker? Should I really jack one from a card?

Thanks!

Unfortunately the LM386 will only push around 325mW.

You can get upwards of 1000mW out of a LM386N-4 with the proper supply and speaker impedance...

It's still a low powered amp, but with proper configuration (that includes porting the speaker properly) you can get a very decent volume level out of it...

Keep in mind I am trying to do this:

http://www.instructables.com/file/FQDH7HXH0OJ006E

So i have very limited space.

I understand, that but the LM386N-4 is a drop in replacement for the regular LM386 chips, so there is no difference there...

And even in the limited space speaker choice and how it's untimely mounted will make a world of difference... Not, all speakers are created equal, impedance, efficiency and frequency response all vary and this alone can make a world of difference in the final sound even if the speakers visually look similar and occupy the same space...

So i bought everything at the breadboard stage now... Where does the guitar input go on the mono jack? Should there be more than one wire going there?

Thanks!!!

Is this the right cap:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...02516&filterName=Brand&filterValue=RadioShack

If not can you link one that would work from RadioShack? How important is the .047uf cap I bypassed it and it still worked? Does more Voltage = More Volume? Right now i have a 9v I am using on the bread board for test purposes and my all the caps are rated for 16v if I put two 9v's (just to see what would happen) on would that mess up the caps?

Thanks!
