Good evening,

I went off to Dick Smith Electronics to get some ultrabright white LED's.
Gee-willy-whiskers, I couldn't believe it...$14.00 each for a single
solitary 5mm LED. That's US$8.82 or UK4.70 (roughly) and is bloody gouging
hiway flippin robbery.

So I didn't get any :-(

Oh, no. Does this mean your, um, inventing efforts are going to grind to a
halt?

That's very high for a standard 5mm white. In the UK we're paying about
2 UKP for Nichia's and about 1UKP for Kingbright.

You can get the cheaper trash LEDs that are used in disposable
electronic gimmicks, but they really aren't suitable for a high level
commercial application. It's not just a case of them dying early, but
whether they ever work in the first place!

Incidentally, they use these trash LEDs in devices that already "boost"
their output over the standard light output achieved at 20mA. Just slap
them over a couple of lithium cells and voila! super bright LEDs.

Oh. Well, how 'bout your usenet spam and million-dollar beseechments? Are

Dear Daniel

The short answer is Hell - NO!

One beaut thing about your spam allegation is that I only fosted a few
articles about this topic, admittadly I cross posted some, (no the LED
Accelerator, this is another topic not related thereto, this topic is about
the price of LED's, which others cross-posted) and a lot of interest
developed because (almost) everybody else decided to have a go at me and
posted their comments. Thus my little molehill grew into a mountain. If you
were truely concerned about spam/cross-posting et al, you would have
ignored it and it would have gone away. That you chose not to ignore it you
trapped yourself - fell for it, hook, line and sinker. You are, therefore,
the author of your own demise. That I have been polite enough to answer
your posts (yours are not so bad because you don't hide behind anonymity)
and questions is why this topic has grown like a bad rash. Exactly the
result I expected. Who can critisize my inet marketing? it has been a
phenominal success largley due to your's and others continuing involvement
- I thank you, thank you, thank YOU.

On my Linux box is a HOWTO on NG posts, it says that professional and
commercial advetorial content while frowned upon, is largely OK provided
that restraint is exercised. Perhaps you feel that I have not exercised
restraint, arguments thereto are academic as everyone has differing
opinions (some less different than others). As for my opinion. I thought it
a newsworthy idea, and after all, only my thoughts count (to me). ;-)

Waiting for berating...
