I need to generate a DC signal that is proportional to the peak of a pulse (100 µs long). I want it to keep the DC level untill the next pulse arives (60 Hz) and then update the level.

  1. Is there a name of such device? (active or passive)
  2. do you know of any manufacturers?
Thanks for your time/M

Welcome to EP, Micke.

The circuit you're looking for is called a peak detector. Dtetcting the peak is comparatively simple. You'll need a means to reset the detector before the next pulse. Otherwise, if the next pulse is lower in amplitude, the peak detector will keep the higher output from the previous peak.

I don't know a manufacturer that sells complete peak detector devices, but app-nores are easy to find, e.g. at Linear Technology, Microchip or Maxim, to name but a few.

A peak detector - a simple example, the capacitor will charge/discharge to the voltage you're sampling. .
