made of coated (polyurethan) copper wire.

Are you using a former or not? If not; the right type of glue (epoxy
for example). If you're using a former, otoh, get some of that heat
shrink plastic tubing; it's hard to beat. (shrink over any suitable
heat source/no tools required)

What environment will it operate in?

For fairly hostile combinations of the above conditions,
Tesla coilers use multiple coats of polyurethane varnish;
the kind used on furniture.
