It's a Motorola MC68HC05 microcontroller, probably with internal ROM. Without the correct firmware it will do nothing at all.

Why do you want to replace it?

It can indeed be a number of things, that's why I asked my question.

What is the complete number, MC68HC05???, there are many different versions.

Hello,

How many pins has the chip?
It could be an 74HC05 hex inverter when it has 14 pins.

@camila: this was posted by @Paul o Callaghan waay back in January 19, 2021. It received nine responses from knowledgeable EP members asking for more information. Not one word of response from the OP (original poster). This is typical of the "drive-by poster" who posts a question and then "moves on" without responding when an immediate answer to their liking isn't forthcoming.

Of course, it could be that this particular OP has died. In which case, let the OP and this thread RIP.

... it would be pointless conversations
Some of us here do engage in keeping a thread going, sort of a "conversation" among interested parties sparked by the original poster long after the original poster has disappeared. I just wanted to warn @camila that not all the forum topics are current and there is no "garbage collection" done by the monitors to weed out and close dead threads.
