Hi.

What's the difference between an apparatus branded as Heath Zenith, and a seemingly-identical one branded as Heathkit?

as far as I'm aware Heathkit haven't existed for at least 20 yrs ( more likely 30+)
They used to supply awesome kits for power supplies ( I once had one) radio receivers and other test gear

I'm assuming Heath-Zenith is some combination of 2 companies
Zenith used to build valve (tube) radio receivers ... I haven't heard of that company's existence for many years either

According to Wikipedia, Zenith bought Heath in 1979 and it became Heath/Zenith.

Heathkit was the name used for their products sold as kits, while Heath-Zenith were/are preassembled products. When they stopped selling kits in 1992, they mainly sold lighting/doorbell type devices under the Heath/Zenith name.
