Heatsink for lm338

I need to attach a heatsink to my charging circuit(using lm338) for a bicycle generator project. I built the bike stand out of aluminum and figured it would be wise to use the frame as a heatsink. Now i know this is probably a dumb question, but how is this connection made? (where is it connected to the lm338)

which version of the LM338 do you have ? TO220 or TO3 ?

No I am not. I was just unsure as to what was needed to accomplish this.. which you provided, thanks!
