Hi there,

Does anyone know about heatsinks?
I found this equation temperature of junction is equal to ambient temperature plus power dissipation at the junction times total thermal resistance of the system. So if I add heatsink on I rise junction temperature. So how does the heatsink help to improve cooling?

Thanks

In most normal circumstances adding a heatsink reduces the junction temperature because the thermal resistance between the junction and the ambient environment is reduced.

Have a look in the resource section. We have a partially completed resource on heatsinks that might help you.

Heatsinks reduce the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance, not increase it.
