Hello everyone I am new here and this is my 1st post. I am no electronics expert by any means but can solder and replace capicators/ chips. My power flickered several times last night and it blew a capacitor I think in my DVR board. Can anyone help me identify the capacitor and a link to buy it? It’s the small capicator in the bottom left corner. I’m not seeing anything on it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you mean the green and gold cap, it will have the details written on it.

However, looks ok to me from here.

I’m talking about what I think is a capacitor in the circled area. It was actually bent over and stuck to the board.

That's a crystal for the uC.
Brown gunk is, as you say "stuck" ....that's probably as it is actually glue.
Time to look else where for whatever problem you have.

Although I'd say with that particular shot, the green and gold cap I mentioned before, does have the top swelled.
Best replace that.

Take extreme care unsoldering it though as one side will be a real bugger to get out.
Ground plane will suck up all your soldering iron heat and possibly bugger the board.
Might be better to cut it out and leave a couple of short tails on top of the pcb to resolder new cap to.
(check the value uF and voltage written on the cap before you mangle it though)

Cant exactly tell but that cap seems to be bulging at the top ? In two pics I see.
That is for sure suspect. You will have to check components connected to it as well,
it may have taken out other parts.

The device 'stuck' to the board is a crystal - often used to generate clock signals or for timing (real time clock for example). It's not a 'fault' per se however that green capacitor beside it seems rather swollen on top.... that could be an issue.

I changed all the capacitors and a new power supply and I’m good to go. Thanks for all your help.

note worthy of the problem is that there are 2 caps there, and I would say replace both using the exact same type, they seem to be the same size and type except one has a black top which is probably the one you think blew. The one that is bulging on the top, the one closest to the center of the board, is failing so when generally you have to replace something you use the exact same component. If they are the same kind and size and rating, buy 2 and replace them both. The one that is black appears to have been burned by some incredibly un-natural force deemed, unknown. I would say that the item is proof that there is some kind of power short that is causing the power there to return to it over and over and over again. that is basically the only way you can burn up a capacitor. the only other way is to put a cap in that is too small. So if you are getting my drift, get caps that are rated at a higher value. Generally a device of the same volts, that is exact or higher will usually work. Good luck, and always compare components before you install them.
