Help in identifying componet

Can anyone help with this:

It is in a T0-220 package (of sorts - 5 leads coming from the bottom vs 3) and has the following markings:

~ 8612 (there are 2 ~ one just below the first one, unable to display it in a text message - the 'humps' are a bit more pronounced).
1573
REL

thanks for any help or cross reference to it.

I couldn't find out what it is yet, but I can give you a few pointers
that I hope will be useful... (and for others in the same situation)

the 8612 is probably a manufacturers date code, week 12 (mid-March) in
(19)86. (does this agree with the age of the device that the part is
in?)

"2 ~ one just below the first one" could this be National
Semiconductor's logo? see
www.plasma-online.de/english/identify/picture/index_logochip_n.html

If not, try searching from A-Z on that site...

Another useful place to try,
http://www.reed-electronics.com/electronicnews/index.asp?layout=webzine,
there is a link to "Part search", which leads to another page where
you must log in, but first you must register. (There is a nearly
hidden "Free Registration" link in the bule panel!)

This site has a very good search engine for all electronic components,
you can then look at the individual manufacturers sites and get full
details of the part...

If you want me to look in more detail, please tell me what equipment
the component is in, and if possible to which other components the 5
leads are connected...
