Help! Locked out of Programming Mode - NEVER hit *98! (Ademco 6270)

You've all been super helpful and patient with me so far... Now here's
a head scratcher.

Ever since I changed the installer code I can not get back into
programming mode! When I punch in Installer + 800, it just beeps at me
and doesn't go into programming mode. And I NEVER previously exited
programming mode with *98, either. I used *99 each time.

And here's the catch... It doesn't appear as though the 6270 touch
panel allows you to simultaneously press * and # after power down/up...
It doesn't seem to let you press any 2 keys simultaneously in console
mode!! You can't really get to the numeric keypad until it is fully
powered up, either. Is there any other way to return the Vista-20PS
panel to full factory defaults, so I can get back in?

So, I can only think to return the 6270 and get a 6160V in exchange. I
still need to finish enrolling my wireless devices. Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Brian.

Ademco doesn't recommend having the 6270 as the only keypad. I suggest
getting a 6150 or 6160

And I can see why. I wish I'd been advised of this when I placed the
order for all this equipment... Because I don't need two. I guess
I'll return the 6270.

Try using your master code to get into programming. You might have
inadvertently put it in there. Also try 4140, just for the hell of
it.

Where did you purchase the keypad? The dealer you bought it from may
be willing to connect to the panel via Compass to correct the problem.

If you happen to have a Compass compatible modem you could try it
yourself.

Nothing wrong with the 6270, just get another keypad and put it near the can
or something

The installer code I have still reprograms the master code. But for
the heck of it I tried getting into programming mode with the master
code instead of the installer code and it doesn't work. 4140 + 800
doesn't get me in either.

BTW, the installer code is the only one that generates a beep when
trying to get into program mode.

I think I have no choice but to get a 6160 as a second keypad and try
getting back in through # + *. :-/

I'll have to look into this. What software would I use?
Thanks.

Oh- okay. You must have locked yourself out.

You could get a 6128 or 6150 just for that job, but a 6139 or 6160
would be better if you plan on keeping it in the system. In fact,
forget I mentioned the fixed alpha models unless you are on really
tight budget.

Compass is the name of the software,
http://www.ademco.com/ademco/products/downloaders/

but you'll need an Ademco modem or one of these (Ebay is best source):

Accura 336 (DOES NOT INCLUDE FAX)
ADEMCO CIA MODEM
BizComp Intellimodem 1200 w/vol
BizComp Intellimodem 2400
Cardinal MB 2400EX
Hayes Optima 336 External

You don't have to have a 6160, if all you are wanting to do is get into
programming a 6128/6150 will do

6160 purchased. I'll install it near the can and leave it there for as
you suggested. Found a good deal on one.

They're requiring a username/password to download the software... How
do I obtain one?

RLB, my best pal in the whole world! I sure missed you. I hope none of these
nasty people repeatedly called your toll-free number, racking up charges on
your bill.
How was the trip? Were any of the little spearchuckers impressed by your condom
story?
Any kidnappings?
Do tell.

Condom story?

maybe a little late, but power down and * # at the same time held
down, will take you into program mode. You can program a vista 20 with
a non alpha keypad very easily, as long as you know what your are
doing, or at least have a program sheet.

*20 then enter your new installer code, then *99 will take you back
out.

Right, the problem was that my only keypad, the 6270, doesn't let you
press * and # (or any two keys for that matter) simultaneously and it's
"panic" button doesn't take me into program mode on startup.
