Help to find a Transistor

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone in this newsgroup can direct me to find an old RCA
transistor in an old Harman Kardon A-1000T amplifier. The part number is
Q591-8003. If it is not available, can anyone know the replacement. I do
know the specification so I can not find a subtitle one. Also, I am
wondering if anyone has the service manual which has the turn up information
which I am looking.

Please e-mail any information to me because I will out of office until next
Monday and can not read this newsgroup. My server will delete news group
message within two days.

Eric-

I suspect the part number is proprietary to Harman Kardon. It doesn't look
like any RCA part number I'm familiar with. The 8003 may be a date code
indicating it was manufactured the third week of 1980. There may be a
cross-reference if you can find the Sam's Photofact issue for that model.

Unless you luck-out finding service information, you may have to guess at the
transistor's specs by how it is used in the circuit. For example, is it a
small plastic device with no heat-sink attached, or is it a power transistor
meant to be mounted to a thermally conductive surface?

Is there another good one of the same type in the unit that can be checked? An
Ohm meter can be used to determine if it is PNP or NPN, and perhaps whether it
is Silicon or Germanium.

Once you zero-in on the approximate specs, you will find that most aren't
critical. For example, I would try a 2N2222 in any circuit that used a low
power NPN Silicon transistor, and it would probably work.
