Hi.

I have an Electret Condenser microphone that is broken.
It is an Audix ADX60 and the fault is as follows:

The microphone comes with an adaptor that goes from male xlr to male mini-xlr (TY3M) and then a female to female mini-xlr cable to connect to the microphone.

I have tried several of these adaptors that all work with other microphones, I don't have a spare cable though.

The microphone plugged into a preamps with 0 dB gain gives nothing but -5dB to -10 dB white noise.

I have a feeling that this can only happen if a very crucial component brakes, but I don't know wich one it would be.
So my question is:
Could this be fixed with a simple component replacement or is the capacitor ie the diaphragm broken ?

- Jonas.

Yeah, or you've got a broken wire (or shorted). Just a thought, to check the plug ends where the wires are at, before assuming the mic itself is broken.
