your thoughts?? thanks took off the coil that was producing less going to get it as close as possible to the magnets next try

hello,

the resistor should be connected as the top drawing.
the voltage measured then will say something about the loss in the coil resistance

By my reckoning, that indicates a coil inductance of ~105mH, if the coil resistance is 7 Ohms.

ok is that good? and could this change if I get the coils closer the the magnets?

That should increase the output voltage of the coil, since the magnetic flux change will be greater as a magnet passes the coil. Somewhere on line I read that generator efficiency varied as the inverse fourth power of the air gap; but the coil involved was a pancake type in a different magnetic circuit configuration, so that figure may not apply to your coil design.

so ok there are starship coils wchich are by far my favourite then pancake coils, bucking coils are cool too, bifiler-coils - can be starship regular pancake all types, I also like the abha vortex coils there mad cool, to collect the collapsing transient spike better know as back EMF also there are what I was thinking was to put iron filling onto the magnets and that way there will litterally be no airgap and maximum I have heard that figure before too, try to find another equation that works with mild steel core, thanks

like this?? surely the frequency is 600rpm / 60 for rev/sec =10 times by norths =9 10* 9 = 90Hz or is it the amplitude which I don't get because it reads 11 but that may be because of the 11 being RMS and 15.6 is peak to peak? and I don't understand why it's 180 degrees out of phase??!!??1707585907294.png

so if I dust the magnets with a layer of iron filings then this will reduce the gap between the magnets and the coils and effectively nullify the gap

If we assume that the efficiency of a generator varies with the inverse fourth power of the air gap distance,
that this is a theoretical relationship and would need to be validated with experimental data or derived from detailed modeling and analysis of the specific generator system in question. In practice, the relationship between generator efficiency and air gap distance can be quite complex and may involve additional factors beyond just the inverse fourth power of the air gap distance.

I was working on the basis that each pole, whether N or S, produces both a +ve peak and a -ve peak in the coil signal because the coil's bolt diameter is much less than the magnet diameter and there were gaps between poles. That means one signal cycle per magnet, making the signal frequency 600/60 x 18 = 180Hz. If you have access to an oscilloscope you could verify if that is correct.
11 V rms has +- peaks of 11 x root 2 = 11 x 1.414 = 15.5V. Spice sine-wave amplitudes are specified by the peak values.

Doesn't matter. If the original gap, in whatever units, is reduced by a factor of 2 the efficiency would increase by a factor of 2^4 = 16. Well, that's the theory anyway :) .
is your estimate still 5 coils minimum?
No. Methinks you'd need a lot more :(.

Edit:
If you use 90Hz as the sine frequency, then the coil inductance to give 6.8V rms across the 100 Ohm load would be twice as much, i.e. 210mH.

how many? I'll get the coils closer to the magnets also theres a 16mm hex bolt one the end of the 1cm core if that changes anything
