How can we help without you showing us the schematic and telling us where your problem(s) is (are)?

That leaves only one advice: learn to read a schematic.

Got an electronics store near you? (Electronics Parts Store, that is)
There are a number of concise books available to learn symbols for electronic parts.
If you know the terms you're looking for, you can Google lots of information on what
the parts are, what they do, and how they work in a circuit.
How detailed do you need to get?
If you can show us the schematic (if this is a one-time deal), Karald Kapp or others
here can help you with questions you have.

This might help you. It's pretty old, and some of the symbols are a bit dated...

I didn't read to the end, it may also tell you how to disassemble your rifle or tell you how to make a wifi dongle from a microwave. Don't blame me if it does.

is the schematic the one coca cola provided in the second last post on this thread? if so we can go over it real quick.
if its from another link please provide it and we can show you every piece.
if it is from cc's post then the "squiggly" line are resistors values are provided
the triangles with vertical lines at the end are LED's. these HAVE to go the right way or they won't light up
and in the bottom left is the 9v power supply

the other lines are wires connecting them together.

If you are looking for an adjustable voltage power supply that is not it. Try looking in the LM317 datasheet.

A sample schematic is provided in the data sheets provided on line. Just Google LM317 Data Sheet.

Chris

Edit: Are you saying that the data sheet you looked at does not provide any applications schematics? I find that hard to swallow.

Right on the cover sheet is a typical application for a 1.2 V - 25 V adjustable regulator. The theory of operation is explained starting on page 9.
What else do you need?

Unlikely... When I Google 'lm317' this is what I get, complete with a schematic on the front page...

When I click on the Images tab at that top of the Google search I get this, a plethora of schematics...

Are you not getting the same thing, or at least very similar when you Google?

If not change the search to 'lm317 schematic'...

But, at the end of the day it's best to simply download the datasheet as others have advised, almost all of them have basic circuit diagrams...

As Harald already told you the schematic is on the cover sheet (aka first page) of the datasheet that you found...
