The data sheet of the SP29500 says the dropout voltage at 5 amp is just 370mV. That is pretty good, isn't it? If I go this route, are there any other factors I need to consider? Would a fuse be best inserted on the input side or the output side of the regulator, as there is a bat. negative terminal on the regulator. Perhaps a fuse each side?
Lastly, the boat's engine is diesel so there to my knowledge there should be no ignition suppression. However it does have an alternator. Does that change things?
