apart from 45c heat for days on end and then 3c in the winter , spiders, snakes that try to kill you, but still ok...

no to medical cannabis...

more serious punishment for animal activists who show conditions of animal welfare

but anyway here's the latest this joke of a government has done...

take the attached image.... China will soon be able to come to australia and become an electrician without australian qualification..

Sure woodwork ok your bench collapses lol, you'll live... but electricians!!!

In all fairness, a general electrician is not the same as an electrical contractor, but its still pretty amazing considering its still illegal for a non-electrician to replace a plug on an appliance!

If the electrical standards shown in control and power circuitry for equipment imported from China are any thing to go by, not much appears to be required to be an electrician.
Graduates from Wal-Mart Electrical counter??

That sucks. I'm not sure what a "General" Electrician is in AU, but one still should be qualified for the job.
In the States here, we can have "helpers"
to pull wire and such, but they need to be under direct supervision of a Journeyman Electrician. The Journeyman Electricians need to be overseen my a Master Electrician responsible for the Job(s).
For machinery controls, licensing is not a requirement but there are regulatory agencies to oversee safeguards.

Moving is one option, but getting more certifications and education is probably a better one, to stay competitive.

Also machine control circuitry falls under NFPA79 (Control circuitry for Industrial Machinery) which is a offshoot of NFPA70 (NEC).

It sounds like Elrctrical Contractor is an approximate equivalent to Master Electrician.

(this is in AU)

On this side of the pond, an Electrical contractor runs an electrical contracting business. An EC can either hire a Master Electrician of record to work for him, or he can be a licensed Master himself.
