I2C bus, slaves on circuit card, master on main pcb

Is it possible to have multiple I2C slaves on a circuit card with SDA and SCL lines continuing on a separate pcb that has I2C master? Would it work well?

I was thinking of having SDA and SCL lines between slaves and master connected with a board to board connector.

If this idea would not work, any suggestions to have I2C slaves on a circuit card separate from I2C master on pcb?
