insulation component used in electric iron

I found an electronic component "240 degre C D242 ZC XS" in steam iron between live wire and heating element, it seems to be damaged and I cannot find a new one, can I just remove it and connect live wire to element without this component. what will be consequences. Also, please tell me, is its function is just to keep wire cooler? or something else, too.

This is a thermal fuse which will blow if the temperature exceeds 240°.

Do not replace it by a direct connection.

Use a suitable replacement fuse, e.g. like this one.
