Hi, I recently purchased this cassette deck but no lights. I had a visual check on circuit board. This 270J part on R183 found loose and heats up on supplying power. Can it be a cause of no power? Rest of the cirbuit board looks ok. Any suggestions please?

That is a 27 Ohm 5% resistor.
If it’s loose, you obviously need to solder it again. And while your iron is hot, check the other solder joints too.

Martaine2005 is right. You should solder this loose resistor. But there is no guarantee that the board will be alright after that. There might be some other faulty components too.

Thanks @Martaine2005 and @bidrohini . Should I replace it or solder again, it was too hot when I touched it with power on. Also, look at the other side of circuit board, its completely loose. I had to pull it up to make contact with board to test when it turned hot. Also, is it 1 W, if I have to purchase new?

If you check the resistor with your multimeter, it should read within 5% or so of that. The heat generated is quite normal and boards do discolour over time. Problem is when manufacturers use a 1Watt resistor where really it should be a 2 Watt for cost cutting.
The board needs re-soldering especially that resistor. It’s probably fine too. Then if you have another issue, post it here.

I have cheked this resister. Its all good. There are 2 other resisters of 1.5k. The onboard reading comes to 735 but when I tested them by taking off from board, they gave the right value of 1.5k. Unable to identify the problom

The power supply for that unit seems to be 'off board' (probably via the thicker grey ribbon cable at the top left of one of your pics) and that's the first place to check for faults. Post a pic of the PSU section and include any voltage measurements you can make.

Hi, the power is coming from amplifier to this cassette deck. I have checked the voltage coming to this unit is around 17V AC. But I am not sure why it is not turning on. There is a relay on the board marked in the picture attached. Might be its not working. I dont know how to test it. Does it click when power supplied?

I googled and found "Take the leads of the multimeter and connect them across the coil terminals of the relay. For a normal coil, the multimeter should read anywhere between 40Ω to 120Ω. If the coil is damaged i.e., it is open, the meter shows out of range and you have to replace the relay".

I checked to coil side of relay with multimeter and its giving a reading of about 924 ohms.

Hi, they are not taking any new registrations. However, I have a servive manual downloaded from somewhere else as attached. Thanks.
PS: Yes. I re-solder the resistor.

Check the voltages at Q1, specifically the collector and emitter. Then the emitter of Q2

Emitter Q1 should be around 19V and collector 12V. Emitter Q2 should be 15V.

Most importantly, the emitter of Q4 should be around 5V - if it is higher (say more than 6V) then the main processor is fried.

Hi @kellys_eye , sorry for late reply. The readings with power on are:

Q1: collector: 9.3, Emitter: 9.8 (B1370)
Q2: C: 26.2, E: 26.8 (D2061)
Q4: C: 5.88, E: 6.5

Q10 is giving around 30 and -21

Please guide. Thanks.

PROBLEM SOLVED !

to definitively fix it, it is necessary to first replace all the capacitors in the power supply circuit. In any case, if you first replace the :
C102
(near the resistor), the problem is solved!

Remember to connect the gray power cable and the black remote control cable, BOTH ARE REQUIRED!
