Kikusui CO 5060 oscilloscope preamp attenuator.

In order to look at 12v-120v dc-ac inverter waveforms, (recent post), I
bought the above dual beam 'scope over EBay and find the only problem
seems to be a bad CH1 attenuator (trace vertical position "all over the
map" if rotary switch touched). Anyone with experience of this 'scope?

Hi Dick,

In order to look at 12v-120v dc-ac inverter waveforms, (recent post), I
bought the above dual beam 'scope over EBay and find the only problem
seems to be a bad CH1 attenuator (trace vertical position "all over the
map" if rotary switch touched). Anyone with experience of this 'scope?

I have a '5040 which served me well over the past 15 years.

It should be too difficult to repair that. I think its only a loose
connector or a bad contact on the rotary switch.

Good luck,
Wolfgang

Thanks for the encouragement Wolfgang, It looks pretty tight in there
as though I would have to pull the preamp circuit board out for access.
I only paid $20.50 USD+ shipping for the 'scope so am reluctant to send
it to Kikusui in Portland for repair. I used CH2 to display and capture
the output waveforms of three different dc-ac "modified sine wave"
inverters using a digital camera. Interestingly they were quite
different one from the other two though they had very similar rms
values of ~121v. I constructed piecewise linear descriptions of these
waves to check my LPF using 5Spice. I am trying to get a 19.2v drill
battery charger to run off one of the inverters.
Regards, Dick
