I seem to be having some problems with hooking up the L7805CV Regulator. When i provide it 12v @2A i seem to be getting an output value of 10.xxV???

What could i be doing incorrectly? Does it matter that the power supply is 2A and the Regulator is 1.5A?

Schematic: http://www.taydaelectronics.com/datasheets/A-179.pdf
Code:
(TOP VIEW)
--------|====== Output
|       |====== Ground
--------|====== Input
I have my photo below hooked up looking at it from the back.

If that (green) is the +12V supply you have it hooked up backwards...

StealthRT,

If you are wiring-up that thing with clipleads, it still may not work, even if the connections are not scrambled. Many of these parts will oscillate at some RF frequency unless the input has a capacitor connected right across the IN and GND terminals. If the capacitor is at some distance, it fails to do its job, and oscillations are the result. Most of the data sheets mention this. The data sheet will also show the correct connections.
