Laptop LCD Problem?

Hello,

I have a Dell Latitude with a problem.

Here are the symptoms:

A few weeks ago I could open the lid about 3-4" and could see Windows
coming up. If I opened the screen to a normal position it would beep
once then turn white. The hard drive works normaly and there seems to
be no other problems.

I bought a used LCD cable off of Ebay and installed it. This didn't
seem to solve the problem. The screen is now just all white and no
Windows logo?? Do you think that the LCD cable is not connected at all
points? or could it be another part like the invertor?

I am new to laptop repairs, and any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks!

It sounds like a bad LCD video cable to me. The cable flexes every time
the lid is open and closed and eventually cracks.

Yeah, but the OP claimed that the thing beeps when this happens. To OP:
does your laptop have a DB-15 video output? If so, is it possible to hook
up a CRT to your unit?

It sounds like you bought a bad cable, or it is not making proper contact
somehow. It is also possible that the LCD screen itself is bad, or the
fault is where the other end of the LCD cable plugs into. These are very
critical to service at times. Generally the factory service replaces the
complete screen and cable when they have these types of faults.
