Is Omron the product to study in terms of popular use or is Siemens
more commony used in industry in the US?

if you understand the PLC programming logic, would it matter what
what prouct you start with as all PLC programming is similar?

It's probably a toss-up between Siemens and AB. AB seems to be a lot
better at automation/machine handling, while Siemens is by far, IMHO, the
best for motion control (NC)

The logic would be similar, the difficulty would be in learning the
programming software, and the quirks of each type of PLC.
