Hi all.
I have just experienced the amazing progression in LED technology (20 years out of date)!
3V 3W that can temporary blind you! I'm talking about the COOL WHITE 5700-6500K, 170-190LM fitted on a 20mm aluminium heatsink, and yes the heatsink gets hot!
These little bu**ers are fantastic. 1 of them more-or-less illuminated my whole room (9'x11', and before the jokes come-in, sounds like a cell, It has opening windows and no parallel bars).
Can someone advise me, if 3 of these LEDs would be cheaper than running a 40W 240V bulb? LED connection from a mains transformer, Parallel or Serial?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. Of course you can by an LED light bulb already built for less than it will cost you to build one. A 60W equivalent uses about 9W, the same as your 3 3W LEDs would and cost about $10.

But you need a power supply, heat sink etc. It is still going to cost you close to $10.

If you're interested in a little theory and some answers to your questions, you might like to browse this:

https://www.electronicspoint.com/got-question-driving-leds-t256849.html

It covers most of the things you'll need to know with the exception of power supplies for mains use. It is also not as good as it could be on the requirement to keep the LEDs as cool as possible (the main cause of premature failure).

Come back and ask if you have more detailed questions.
