Looking for 5-10second audio delay line (300Hz - 15Khz bandwidth)

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a stand-alone delay line unit that can handle an
input audio bandwidth of at least 300Hz - 15Khz.and continuously delay
that audio by at least 5-10 seconds. I guess that I'm probably looking
for something similar to the devices used in broadcast studios to censor
expletives when taking incoming phone-in programmes.

Can anyone in this NG recommend a supplier (preferably in Europe) of
such a device/module, OR alternatively suggest a suitable circuit design
(or chip-set ?) that will enable me to build one up from 'scratch'?

Many TIA,

- Dave

Does that mean you want something that just handles *speech*?
(15KHz is considerably higher than that -- yet the 300 and 15K
numbers suggest you aren't looking for high end audio kit (?)

It's a trivial design -- depending on what sort of quality
you want in the signal, how "adjustable" you want it to be,
how you want it to behave "in transition", etc.

Do you have specific size, power, quality, reliability, cost, etc.
requirements? Or, will you settle for "anything that gets the
job done"?

AFAIK these can be bought as standard devices. Did you google for
audio delay line?

Eventide have several products that include this. Check out www.eventide.com

It is not quite so simple if you need a delay with the resolution of a
fraction of a sample.
Sure it is. Just grab more samples. Memory is cheap.

Many thanks to all those who had something useful to offer in response
to my posting.

I'm looking for something that is single channel (Mono.) entirely
non-mechanical, and able to operate from cold completely stand-alone,
probably with 24-bit resolution and at least 48KHz sampling rate.

I can't risk anything using analogue boards in a standard PC running a
custom program that needs to be booted up manually and is then liable to
'crash' at the most awkward times.

I've followed up some of the suggestions made, done some more Google
searching, and at the moment I rather like the capabilities (but not the
price) of this device which works in association with a dedicated
controller:

I'll keep looking in case I can find a cheaper solution. Thanks again
to those people who took the trouble to respond.

** You are lucky anyone bothered with such a wacko idea and no accompanying
explanation of the purpose.

** Genuine, 24 bit resolution simply does not EXIST in the world of audio -
nor is 48 kHz sampling needed for 15 kHz bandwidth. If you had a single
tiny clue, you would already know that.

Result is pal - YOU are looking just like another DAMN TROLL posting
your latest wet dream to see who will wank off in public over it.

I've followed up some of the suggestions made, done some more Google
searching, and at the moment I rather like the capabilities (but not the
price) of this device ....

** You should have posted your minimum needed specs and budget expectation.

Or else explain the application, at the very least.

But you chose to do neither.

Lemme guess, you are clueless code scribbler - right ?

And a pommy puke to boot.

Piss off.

I'm surprised and rather sorry that my posting asking for
help/suggestions on a subject that I (quite obviously) don't know much
about, from the experts on this NG, should prompt such a violent and
abusive reaction.

I have lived long enough to know that most people with specialist
technical knowledge are usually quite pleased to be able to try and
assist other less knowledgeable people who genuinely ask for help, be
they on an Internet newsgroup like this one, or in the 'real' world
outside - I always try to do so myself, whenever I can.

Ho hum! Strange old world, isn't it ?

** Post an honest question and see the difference - shithead.

Pukes like you don't deserve any kind of answer.

** But the they have to be asked a real question by a real person with a
real need.

Not a wanking, lying, smug, pommy **** like you.
