Hi Everyone,

I have an unknown electronics part, and I'm looking to identify it:

- 5 pin device, something variable about it b/c there's a slotted screw
turn on top
- Markings:
- TOP: N3 4
- SIDE: TRO 215 E572
- Image: http://www40.brinkster.com/electromagnetic/images/part.jpg

If someone has an idea what it could be, then I could set it up as
though it were said device, and check if behaves as expected. I just
don't have any clue where to begin as of yet.

Thanks for any help!

Looks like a small coil (=inductor) - the type of thing you'd find in
the radio frequency stages of.... a radio <g>

Can't help on the meaning of the markings - it'll be a part number of
some sort, and without knowing the manufacturer it's hard to make any
suggestions.

As to testing it - these things typically have two coils, possibly
with a capacitor across them, making a tuned circuit.

Check with an ohmmeter across the outer two pins of the 3-in-line -
probably get continuity - low ohms. Also check the other coil (the two
opposite pins).

The screw adjustment in the top will screw a ferrite core down into
the coil to allow it to be fine-tuned...

Hope this helps

It looks as if the manufacturers name is stamped around the adjustment
hole - do a google search!
