Hi everyone,
Newbie here, and am hoping for some expert advice on antennas.
I have an AM/FM Radio with a telescopic antenna that I would like to replace with a spare ‘modern’ screw on antenna I have from a handheld scanner.
I have scoured the internet but cannot find any simple adapter for this. So my question is…
Is there an adapter that I can simply screw ‘in’ to the single screw antenna connector on the radio that will allow me to screw ‘on’ the other antenna?
I have attached pictures, I would really appreciate any advice or direction.
Radio.jpgAntenna.jpgThank you!!!

It's not really an update.
I really need dimensions. You have micrometer? short answer is yes, they have adapters. I'm guessing you have a helical antenna or what they call a rubber ducky.
Shown below is a male like you have so what you going to need is a female adapter.
They come in both sexes & anywhere in between. Hehe!
But if you could show me the bottom of your antenna I want to make sure there's not a center pin. If there is it's probably a mini UHF.

The antenna you intend to fit doesn't allow for changes in length or orientation - factors that could be useful when trying to maximise signal strength and/or reducing interference.

Seems like a backward step to me.

It more an esthetic thing, I currently have a 4ft antenna running up the wall of my den.

Hi,
Thank you for responding, and my apologies, new guy to this. And correct, not really an upgrade, more for esthetics as I have a 4ft antenna running up the wall in my den.
I do not have a micrometer, sorry. But the internal fit width of the antenna is 2mm (pic attached).
The radio is a Realistic DX-440, I cannot find any spec’s (even in the manual) about the size of the antenna connection. I do not have a micrometer, sorry.
The antenna I hope to fit to it is an SMA Female (Standard), pic added.
Does this help?

Hello,

It looks like the shown antenna can only be used for the FM-band of your radio.
It will do almost nothing on the LW, MW and AM bands on the radio.

Also the shown antenna uses a SMA connector , wich has a signal and ground connection and not a screw-on.

Thank you! Strange though, I took if off my scanner when I got a longer one and it worked fine there. Thank you, I will research further.

Hello,

Has the radio an other input for an antenna connection?
Then you could build an active antenna and connect that,

Hello,

That look like a tulip connecor, also known as a RCA connector.
Then you could make a simple active antenna like in the folowing schematic:
hf_active_antenna_using_cmos.png

I have used it in combination with an old TRIO HF receiver.

Thing is.....the new antenna will have (at best) possibly only 30mm of antenna length.

This is an male to male RCA coupler.
Also known as an RCA dual male connector & last but not least
RCA male to male adapter.
I just called them RCA barrels.
