As long as you pay postage for it everyday.. :)

1.3 Use for Mail

Except under 2.11, the receptacles described in 1.1 may be used only
for matter bearing postage. Other than as permitted by 2.10 or 2.11,
no part of a mail receptacle may be used to deliver any matter not
bearing postage, including items or matter placed upon, supported by,
attached to, hung from, or inserted into a mail receptacle. Any
mailable matter not bearing postage and found as described above is
subject to the same postage as would be paid if it were carried by
mail.

As long as it doesn't interfere with your letter carrier's normal duty, it
is ok.

Yes, it is completely legal. Postal regulations against using mailboxes for
non-US mail materials are not directed at the mailbox itself nor at devices
affixed to the mailbox. The regulations are primarily intended to prohibit
alternate carriers from using mailboxes. That's why rural mailboxes often
have newspaper tubes affixed to them. It is illegal for a newspaper carrier
to stuff newspapers in mailboxes but it's perfectly legal to attach a mail
tube to the box.

WRONG..

2.11 Newspaper Receptacle

A receptacle for newspaper delivery by private carriers may be
attached to the post of a curbside mailbox used by the USPS if the
receptacle:

a. Does not touch the mailbox or use any part of the mailbox for
support.

Thanks Graham. You're right.

In our neighborhood, we used to deliver notices to our homeowners from
the homeowners association. It was usually a one page letter
concerning our neighborhood, brush pickup schedules, etc.

The postal service advised us on this, along with other matters
concerning the mailbox, which really seemed ridiculous, but, alas,
they take this stuff seriously.

Just a bit of advice to Rich. Ask your local postmaster about this.
Just because you bought the mailbox, maintain the mailbox, and have to
replace the mailbox when it rusts out, doesnt mean you have any rights
to modify it. <mad>

It;s really a shame that people want to speak with authority when they
