Something's gone wrong, John. It was supposed to get posted to abse
only but not all of it came out from what I saw of the transfer status
monitor. Unfortunately, it appears Google don't provide access to this
forum any more as I can't find it to check. I *will* post it to my
website if necessary, but can anyone else confirm if Google has
dropped abse? (and if you do find it, please take a look to see if my
attempts to upload the schematic succeeded. Thanks

Google doesn't carry ANY binaries newsgroup, including ABSE.

I thought that was a great idea, Jim., so implemented it only to find
that all my efforts were thwarted. I shall have to address this
problem in the morning, wereupon I hope to have a few more working
brain cells. :) Wine! Who needs it? :):):)

Hey! I'm starting my second glass and I'm still running up and down a
ladder hanging ornaments. (We will celebrate our family get together
this year on Friday the 26th so that all family members can get here
;-)

Some people have multiple celebrations. For example our
neighbors are all setup for tommorrow afternoon. Some in
that family may well go from the 24th to the 25th and 26th.
Eventuially it may seem a chore.

Family is never a "chore".

We juggle our get-together date to accommodate older grandchildren
that want their own "at-home" Christmas, a prosecutor that may draw
holiday murder duty, a water-services manager on high-alert, etc.
Just your ordinary regular American family ;-)

Indeed. Last year, I had four days consecutive, at different places. I
needed eight days to recover. This year, it's one and a quarter days,
but still at three different places.

I've finally managed to get the blasted thing up on the following URL!

I suspect the 380 ohm load (which is the meter) is loading it down a
bit, though. :-( Should I add a follower stage?

Alternatively,

Adding a coupling cap to the final diode(!) and changing to a schottky
diode improves meter sensitivity a bit more and gets over the loading
problem above. See:

The simulation showed 11mV p-p output across the load resistor for the
100uV p-p source. Not bad in three simple stages...

shown in addition - and they display okay. So I can only imagine your

I've just re-checked and the first one isn't there for some reason. My
apologies. Very odd. Never mind, the fsm(revision1) pic is probably
the better of the two to look at, anyway.

The filename is not 'fsm3.jpg' now , is it?

I can see neither rhyme or reason in the biasing, but at least you
haven't got anything bottomed now. Your AC coupled diode still won't
work.

You keep missing the point about that coupling cap. HOW does it move
charge ??

You keep missing the point about that coupling cap. HOW does it move
charge ??

It moves charge by virtue of having an AC voltage across it. Yes, I
know it's in series with a diode so that doesn't make sense in this
case. But try simulating it for yourself if you don't believe me. You
only have to sim the final stage and apply an arbirary sine source to
its input to represent the prior stages. Sorry you would know that,
anyway. But try it! Then tell me it doesn't work...
