Most likely you have "scoria". If it is basaltic it should have a little
magnetite in its matrix. Continued heating will convert the magnetite to
hematite. Hematite gets VERY hot in a microwave oven. A crucible made of
hematite can get hot enough to melt various metals (and in fact used for
