motion detector recommendation for harsh environment

I have a severe residential environment situation where I need a ceiling
mount motion that can withstand being located within 2 feet of an air
conditioning vent (outlet). I have already tried the Sentrol AP669 PIR and
a Visonic Duo240 dual tec. Both experience false alarms about twice per
week when the A/C turns on. Both have been set to their most discriminating
settings and they still false.

I'm trying to find a motion with reasonable aethetics otherwise I'd just use
the C&K dual tec but its too ugly for residential use.

I was looking to try the Intellisense IS-290, the Optex SX-360Z or one of
the low profile models from DS. Anyone have a recommendation on a ceiling
mount that is discriminating enough to ignore air conditioning while not
being horrendously ugly???

Thanks

Scott

Here's one for you:

Paradox "Paradome" series... http://www.paradox.ca. Click on "products and
manuals" then scroll down on the main page till you come to the "Paradox
Digital Detection" section... I've heard good things about their new DG-466
and we're currently evaluating one as well... So far so good...

As to where you're going to find one... You could try a number of these
online dealers (all of whom participate in this group):

http://www.alarmsystemstore.com
http://www.alarmsuperstore.com
http://www.alarmcontacts.com
http://www.diycomponents.com
http://www.tech-man.com/estore/default.asp

Good luck!!

Try using two detectors, mounting them as far apart as you can and still see
the area to be protected. Wire the contacts in parallel, so both units must
trip at the same time to cause an alarm.

Thanks, does the Apex Destiny 6100 support "and" ing sensors? Not sure this
is a viable option since the sight of a second detector close by is not my
first choice. Plus I guess I guess Ic an only use one dual tec detector
since two radars mounted close to each other will interfere....

BTW, who has a ceiling mount with Pet Immunity? Robert Bass indicated I can
get one. I've never seen it in a ceiling product.

I'm glad to hear your experience with them has been so good, Rory... I
found their 6000's to be less than desireable... They had a nasty habit of
"falling asleep" after a few minutes in a quiet room... You could walk half
way through a 20 x 20 room before the sensor responded once it reached this
state. Even at a single pulse setting... We decided on the Paradox line
some time ago and haven't looked back...

Thanks, I'm going to check with ADI tomorrow to see if they carry the
Paradox line.

Robert Bass, thanks for your info. I knew exactly what you were referring
to when you mentioned "and" ing. I just did not know if the Apex supported
it. Thanks for the clarification.

I also see that Detection Systems makes directional ceiling mount motions.
This might work if I can get them mounted correctly out of the way of the
airflow.

which ones do you mean?

I dont know of those 6000's, they may be old ones. Ive used the
Zodiacs, Lunar, and Cosmos and they have worked very well.

The new "Paradome" should fit the bill for you (without all the "extras")...
