According to the ACA website, the nominal medium wave AM broadcasting band
in Australia is 526.5 to 1606.5 kHz (inclusive). So why does Radio 2
broadcast on 1611, 1620 and 1629kHz if (perhaps) most receivers only tune
the above frequency range (526.5 to 1606.5 kHz (inclusive)?

Has there been a change in the standard AM band frequency range in recent
times?

Cheers,
Alan

** See http://www.radio-two.com.au/ to find out WTF radio 2 are.

Most AM receivers are mechanically tuned and cover a margin above and below
the nominal figures for the AM band - 520 to 1670 kHz is typical.
However, my Aiwa digitally synthesised AM/FM tuner only covers from 522 to
1611 kHz, so no radio 2.

There are now quite a number of services operating just above the top of
the AM band - this craziness started in Sydney in late 1970s with the UNSW
broadcasting course lectures and later 2RPH ( Radio Print Handicapped ) on
1730 kHz. At the time few standard AM sets covered that frequency but cound
easily be tweaked to get there. 2RPH moved a few years ago to the present
1224 kHz.

See http://www.2rph.org.au/default.asp for WTF 2RPH are.
