HI,

I want to place a magnetic switch on a door so that when the door closes a light bulb goes on.

The easiest way would be to find AC rated switches and just splice in the switch, but I do not want AC running through the magnetic switch.

So...I want to purchase a magnetic switch that is closed when the door is closed (magnet in field) and is open when the door opens and run a relay.

Is there a relay that will switch AC on/off when you short or open its inputs. Basically I have no voltage to switch the relay I just want the relay to switch when I jumper it's contacts.

Is there such a thing that doesn't require a voltage to switch it?

Thanks.

you will need a separate low voltage source to run through the reed switch and operate a relay to switch the mains voltage to the light.

You could operate a plug pack (wall wart) from the same source as the mains for the light.
