I have a KDS Model # MF-2014 digitla photo frame that just died and was wondering if it worth repairing. It was only about 1 1/2 years old so I hate to throw it away if I can easily fix it. It was making a high pitched squel for a about a month and the screen started to get darker until it was not viable at all. Any ideas on the problem?

It's probably either the inverter board or the CCFL tube(s).

You *may* be able to get replacements for these (I got a replacement for my laptop) but the replacement process is not always straightforward.

Would these parts have part numbers on them? I would have any idea how to find the replacement parts if it didn't. Are these fairly easy and cheap to replace?

These devices are manufacture only. The components are usually all custom made for the particular manufacture and design. These devices are not designed to be serviced or supported.

What Jerry said.

But there are a number of sites on the internet that specialise in replacement CCFL and inverters.

Typically both are very cheap, but a real pain to replace (CCFL especially). I'll try to drag up one of these sites.

Are you in the US? If not, postage may kill you. I flew over there from Australia to pick mine up (just kidding -- I had it sent to me while I was in the US though).

OK, you could try http://www.lcdparts.net/ I'm pretty sure I didn't purchase mine from them, but the site seems to have all the same relevant information. You might try looking for replacement parts for the model of photo frame you have. The CCFL typically runs along one of the long edges of the display, so that should tell you the size you need.
