Why a new thread?

https://www.electronicspoint.com/need-project-lm1889-commodore-vic20-t253068.html

The video chip is not hard to get, it's painless and easy to get, just order it up like any other chip... I have already pointed you towards a $10 delivered option using Ebay and a simple Google search will reveal other options... Heck one of my go to suppliers has hundreds of them in stock under $4 each...

Also look at equivalent chips, the NTE846 is listed as a replacement part (confirm this yourself before ordering) and that chip is even easier to find, heck Mouser even still has one in stock... Newark has plenty on hand...http://analytics.supplyframe.com/tr...rOsiQDME6gt8u5UQZvr9sXAzYRmCHK2khP22eK5LzA4xI

OK threads are merged

Rambo99 ... please try to avoid starting new threads on the same topic, it avoids the confusion of same/similar answers in two different places

Note to Rambo, editing your original post and completely changing your request and question is not beneficial as it breaks the thread even further...

Im still trying to figure out his request as I think you are??
its pretty difficult to understand exactly what is wanted

OK he has the chip....
is he wanting a circuit that it can be used in ?
what is a project display ?
or is he just after a composite video or RGB monitor ?

Yeah, no duh, refer to my post above you changed the topic of the thread just a few minutes ago... Now that you have completely edited and changed your original post my replies are not longer relevant... Your original post read that you were looking for an LM1889 chip, not that you have a LM1889 chip and were looking for a Commodore MOS 6560 chip or how to make the LM1889 work... You completely reword and change your request and then put the blame on me for answering the original question not the new one you just created a few minutes ago?

Watch Ebay or the local thrift store, I regularly see VIC20 and C64 computer in my local thrift store for $10 or $20... And the same can be said on Ebay if you watch the auctions closely... For that price you might as well just pull if from a working system... Hit up some vintage computer forums, I'm sure if you asked specifically for said chip someone will hook you up...

He is editing, rewording and changing his post faster than I can reply... So yeah I'm lost...

Yes, you can... You just need to devote yourself to finding one, just like any obsolete part... Heck I'll sell you one for $100, but it will take a few weeks as I will need to purchase a VIC20 or C64 wait for it to arrive and pull it for you...

I really have no idea what you actually want

And it looks like I'm not alone

Hey cocacola

What we need is a really dumb explanation like:

"I want to be able to plug this into my Vic 20 and have the Vic 20's display converted to work on an LCD monitor."

Concentrate on what has to happen, not what chips will be used.

I think what he wants is to replace the Commodore MOS 6560 chip with the lm1889 chip... And the short of it, is NO it's not going to work...

The Commodore MOS 6560 is pretty much an entire graphics and sound processor chip the lm1889 is just a TV video modulator chip... For the $20 it cost to get a scrap Commodore computer and pull the 6560 chip it's hardly worth the effort or time to build or even fiddle with a replacement circuit... But, if one was inclined I suspect you could port the existing 6560 emulation software for PC game emulators to a micro and likely get a functional 6560 clone up and running, but hardly worth the time or effort...
