Need to place sensors 100ft deep in water. Wire terminations, wire, etc.

We are working on a project in which we will need to submerge sensors and suspend them by their lead wire/cable. We need to achieve a bulletproof water seal! I am pretty certain that just potting will not stop water ingress as it will just sneak between all the contact surfaces, but I could be wrong and I hope so, that would be easy! I have commonly seen vulcanized rubber plugs made for stuff like this.

We will probably use a type of multi conductor cable in a jacket and may try to achieve an Oring or similar seal against the jacket. Curious what you guys have run into? I would guess there are many marine applications where this is done daily but I am new to this effort. I was sort of wondering about a slightly expansive potting? maybe if we contain it, it will expand and provide the sealing? It seems risky.

There are epoxies specifically designed for such a purpose. Look for electrical cast resin underground cable jointing kits. 3M is one manufacturer and there are many others.
