So I had a Weller Heat a Print, which apparently had support ended for it in the early 90's, so when my tip crapped the bed I figured it was just time to upgrade. I've Looked at some different stuff, and I wondered what some others might think about a LF855-D?I do a wide variety of Electronics repair, usually relatively small stuff. I'm in high school so I only have a few hundred to spend on a new system, and that's also why I don't really have a specialty.

So, That's my story and what I found. If any one has ever tried one of those, or if you have other suggestions, I'm open to Ideas! Some links to the LF 855-d System Below.

No opinion on the one you have linked...

But, even though you find a lot of 'negative' stigma attached to the China imports on the Internet, I will continue to FIRMLY stand behind them as a damn good $ for $ alternative to the name brands... I have been using them full time for years and have had VERY little to no issues at all, they simply work and continue to work year after year...

I don't have the exact dates off the top of my head but give or take in the last 12-14 years I have burned out only one heating element in one station, that is the only fault I have had besides your normal tip replacement schedule... The new replacement wand (to lazy to tinker with a heating element swap for the price) for that station cost a whopping $12 to replace and it still functions to this day... And it's not uncommon for me to have the station(s) on for 12+ hours a day...

If you are one of the guys that has to have Snap-On tools because Stanley isn't 'shinny' enough, the cheap import stations are probably not for you, but if you want a lot of bang for you buck, don't dismiss them...

The ones I use are the house branded 'CSI' one from Circuit Specialist...

This regular station...

And this rework station to be exact...

If nothing else have a look around their site at what they offer in 'cheaper' alternatives to the big names...
