So after looking around, I dediced on the Brother Hl-1440 ($190 after
tax). I got a new one from Office Max, not the refurbished one from
TigerDirect that I posted the link to in the original message. I
really didn't need all the power of the LaserJet 4. In a given month,
I will probably print 300-500 sheets, so having a workhorse would be
nice, but overkill. The Brother seems to work really well, does all I
need.
I do have a question about memory. It has a 72 pin SIMM slot
for upgrades, and the manual says it requires 60-73nS access time
IIRC. I have some old 72 pins sitting around, so I found the most
recent of them and tried to find some specs on the chips. One had 1
Meg chips with what looked like 16mS time (HY5118160 chips). Is that
figure right? The only other one I had uses KM48C2100AJ-7 chips by
SEC. The labeling on the chip looks like,

M48c2100AJ-7
I couldn't find any data on this, if anyone knows where to find the
datasheet or even just has the figures, I'd really appreciate it.
The SIMM is manufactured by VISIONTEK (barcode on back is
MEMSIM023AAWW) made in 1995, if that helps. I'm assuming this will be
too slow as well, but just out of curiousity I put it in. It seems to
work fine in the printer, it recgnizes it in its configuration,
printer runs at normal speed, but I still took it out. Any thoughts,
should it be ok, or probably isn't worth it, etc. Thanks for all

The part, HY5118160 was made by Hyundai; it seems that they have had
some financial problems along with allegations of trade violations with
the US and presumably aer being "re-organized".
In any event, the part is FAST PAGE MODE DRAM: 1MX16 (from Questlink
chipcenter).

Yes, it is along one and you will have to patch it back together.
Be advised that no chip is so slow as to be rated in MILLISECONDS.
Apparently similar-numbered parts are/were made by Hynix and Intersil;
part numbers are: HY5118160BJC-6, HY5118160BJC60, HY5118160BJC-60,
HY5118160BJC-70 (etc).
Anyway, from the numbering, i cannot say the speed, but guess the
slowest, or 70nSec.
Also, the KM48C2100AJ-7 would be 70nSec.

VisionTek does not seem to make RAM chips, maybe they make the sticks
or buy them elsewhere with their name on it.
