is it suitable?the transistor is used to feed a monitor's led backlight

Usual approach is to go higher not lower, in specs.
Then again, it all depends on the application, which is not shown.
Best advise under those conditions, suck it and see....2cent part.

It's only the dissipation that's 'lacking' in those specs but any decent system designer wouldn't be running a transistor close to its limits anyway so you'll probably get away with it.

I am VERY thoroughly questioning the above's last words.
Since M-U-U U-U U-U U-L T I P L E ---- M-U-U U-U U-U U-L T I P L E---- M-U-U U-U U-U U-L T I P L E . . . . LED's would be used for a LCD displays backlight . . . .and operating at hefty CURRENTS.
Therefore, like hefty powered transistors would be needed for switching power to them.
More likely . . . . . with that KTN ( Korean sourced_) 2222A being initially used, a back light application is NOT being its fare.

HOWEVER . . .if that back light . . .in reality . . . is being the front of monitor power Red or Green on LED indicator and being driven by this transistor, then . . . not to worry . . . it will be consuming a mere 50mw of power, not even tickling that secondary option of a surface mount 2222. That's considering a conservative 20 ma current pull of the LED.
In the presence of the triple foil pads used with the original TO-92 cased transistor versus making the fit of the surface mount version, you might look around all of your electronics surplus /parts chassis and see the possibility of the use of one of these 2222 - TO-18 TO-92 family subs.
Count the grains of sand in . . . . .
Count the acceptable subs in this non critical application . . . . .
