evening,

My first post here.

I have been pulling my hair out on this one. Can anyone help me out?

I have an old color coded capacitor, red/yellow/white/red
As in pic

I tried to calculate with color code online and got 2.4pF and my tester reads 232.9 nF

Am I missing something? Or is this cap just. I good?

I am rebuilding a board and want to make sure I order a proper equivalent.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

these are the old C280 series polyester
the thickness of the red band hints to me that it is probably a double red

so red red yellow = 220000 pF = 220nF = .22uF

the 220nF is close enough to your measured 239nF allowing for a bit of tolerance variation

( the white is the tolerance)

A trip down memory lane! Reminding me that when ever you tried to bend the leads to fit holes, the ends of the capacitor broke off!

What were they nicknamed??? Was it 'pelican' capacitors (for their coloured dip effect?)
