Chaps,
I've got an old fan, a Remo made in UK. The wires for it are Black Green and
Brown. Any ideas how these fit into a modern plug?
Cheers for any help.

Is the Brown perhaps a faded Red?

If so, it's probably Red - Live; Black - Neutral; Green - Earth.

But you will bus it out before following my advice, won't you?

Doesn't sound right. The old colours were Red (live), Black (neutral)
and Green (earth). Is the brown actually a faded red?

The new colours are Brown (live), Blue (neutral) and Green/Yellow striped
(earth). So it's not likely to be that if the green is a continuous
colour.

There shouldn't really be a problem, however. Green is clearly the
earth, and the other two wires the AC supply - doesn't matter which way
round.

However, you don't say where you are. If it is UK made with
red/black/green colours, it will probably be for 240V 50 Hz supply, so
whether it will run depends on your supply.

Hope this helps.

I'm in the UK, the fan predates even the 'redwire' period I'd have thought.
I don't think it's a faded red.

Job done. Green was the neg', brown seems happy as live.
Now I can sit back and enjoy the sun.
Cheers
