Hi

I'm currently repairing a sensor what has couple very small smd opamps in it. I noticed that one of the opamps have couple very small bulges in it. Is it normal to smd op amp have those kinds or things in it? Or should it be completely flat?

Other IC is probably just scratched somehow I think. Replacement sensor is not too expensive but I would have to buy it from other side of the world so I want to be certain its broken. I'm trying to find out tomorrow the IC type.

The IC with those bulges in it is something what ends 04 W. Its impossible to see whole type number. Could it be possible that the type is covered with those things?

yes, or just totally distorted by the bulging and now unreadable

you may have a real hard time getting replacements

the thing is, we don't even know if they are op-amps as you originally stated
they could be anything

so what di this board come out of? have you tried to get service info ?
have you contacted the manufacturer or repair centre for a replacement board ?

Its sensor for canon ipf 9100 printer. I asked this same question in other forum and there they say this :

" It certainly looks unusual but when small ICs like that overheat they usually show scorch marks and there is a single bulge above the silicon in the center of the top face. That looks more like the glue dots used to keep components in place prior to soldering. Possibly the manufacturer has used glue dots to deliberately obscure the part number or to indicate a revision of the board design or IC firmware."

Problem is that I have to order new sensor if I dont know that it is certainly working. I tested the led's and they are fine, so its those IC's if its anything at all.
